Panel Upgrades in Hudson Oaks

Your electrical panel feeds every circuit in your home. When it runs short on capacity or shows its age, we replace it with one sized to how you live now, wired neatly, labeled clearly and set up to serve you well for many years.

When a New Panel Is the Right Call

A panel upgrade replaces the main breaker box, and often the breakers inside it, with equipment that can safely carry the load your home draws today. Many panels were sized for a smaller house with fewer appliances. Add central air, a larger kitchen, a hot tub or an electric vehicle, and the old box ends up working at its limit.

We do not recommend a new panel just because one is old. Some panels only need tightened connections, a bad breaker swapped or a cleaning, and our Torque & Cleans visit handles that. When the box is undersized, damaged or out of spaces, replacing it is the step that protects everything downstream.

We look at a panel as something you will live with for decades. That shapes how we size it, how we route the wires and how much room we leave for the next project.

What Comes With a New Panel

Sizing based on a load calculation

Before picking a size, we add up your appliances, heating and cooling, and anything you plan to add. The panel you get fits what your home actually uses.

A new enclosure and breakers

The new box comes with fresh breakers, with arc-fault and ground-fault protection wherever code requires it. Open spaces are left so a later circuit will not call for another upgrade.

A look at grounding and bonding

We check the grounding electrode, the bonding and the neutral connections, then fix anything that is not right. The ground is what makes a panel safe.

Tidy wiring and clear labels

Wires are routed neatly, every termination is torqued to spec, and each breaker is marked with its room and use, so the next person to open the door can read it quickly.

Permit, inspection and the utility

We handle the permit and book the inspection your local jurisdiction requires. If the meter has to come out, we arrange the disconnect and reconnect with your utility.

Signs Your Panel Is Ready to Be Replaced

Breakers that trip often
One trip during a storm is normal. Breakers that trip when the dryer and air conditioner run together point to a panel or circuit carrying more than it should.
Lights that dim when the AC starts
A brief flicker is common, but steady dimming during long summer cooling runs can signal a strained service. We check the panel and the connections feeding it.
Heat, buzzing or scorch marks
A panel cover that feels warm, a humming sound or brown marks around a breaker mean a connection is overheating. Turn off what you can and book a visit soon.
No room for new circuits
Doubled-up wires on one breaker or tandem breakers squeezed into every slot tell us the box ran out of space years ago.
An old fuse box or problem-prone panel
Fuse panels and some older breaker panels have a history of breakers that do not trip when they should. Replacement is usually the sound choice.
A big addition on the way
Planning EV Charger Installation, Generator Installation or a Home Battery Backup System often starts with confirming the panel can take it.

The Steps of a Panel Upgrade

  1. 1

A first look at your panel

We take the cover off, test breakers and connections, look at the meter base and grounding, and hear what you are planning. Whatever we find, we show you.

  2. 2

    Scope and price in writing

You get the panel size, the parts and any needed corrections on paper. If a repair would serve you better than a new panel, we say so.

  3. 3

    Permit and a set date

We apply for the permit and arrange the utility visit when the meter has to be pulled. You receive a date and a clear sense of how long the power will be out.

  4. 4

    The day of the swap

Power is usually off for much of one day. We cover the floor and wall near the panel, transfer circuits one by one and test each before the cover goes back on.

  5. 5

Sign-off and a tour of the panel

Once the inspector approves the work, we show you the new panel, its labeled directory and the empty spaces kept for future circuits.

What Moves the Cost of a Panel Upgrade

No two panel changes are priced the same, because what sits behind the cover varies from house to house. We explain each line on the estimate so you know what you are paying for. Nothing is added without your approval.

Panel size and amperage
A larger service needs a heavier panel, breakers and sometimes new service conductors.
Meter base and service entrance
If the meter base or the cable from the utility is worn or undersized, it may need replacing along with the panel.
Location and access
Keeping the panel in place is simplest. Moving it, or working in a tight closet or finished wall, adds labor and patching.
Condition of existing wiring
Brittle insulation, missing grounds or aluminum branch circuits take extra time to correct properly.
Add-ons you choose
Whole-home surge protection, extra arc-fault breakers or a generator inlet can be done at the same time, often more efficiently than later.

Common Questions About New Panels

Is the permit for a new panel something you take care of?
It is. We apply for the permit and book the inspection your local jurisdiction requires. We do not consider the job done until it passes, and we manage those steps for you.
How long will the house be without power?
In most homes the power stays off for a large part of a single workday. Adding a new meter base or moving the panel can stretch that. You will know the expected window in advance so you can plan.
Will an EV charger force me to replace my panel?
Not necessarily. A load calculation comes first. Some homes already have the capacity and an open space, while others need a new panel or a load management device. We show you which one fits your house.
Do frequent breaker trips mean the panel has to go?
Sometimes, but usually not. Repeated trips can come from a circuit carrying too much, an appliance going bad or a breaker that has worn out. We find the cause first, and if a simple fix through our Electrical Repair service handles it, that is our recommendation.
What keeps a new panel in good condition?
Leave clear, dry space around it, and check capacity before adding circuits. Years of heating and cooling can loosen connections a little, so a Torque & Cleans visit now and then keeps terminations snug and the panel running cool.
